Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Political advertising plays a crucial role in shaping voter perceptions, influencing public opinion, and driving electoral outcomes. During elections, political parties and candidates utilize various media channels to communicate their messages, policies, and promises to the electorate. In Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa State, political advertising has become a prominent feature of election campaigns, leveraging both traditional and digital platforms to reach diverse audiences. As noted by Usman and Ibrahim (2023), the effectiveness of political advertising depends on its ability to resonate with the audience, evoke trust, and address key issues. This study explores audience perceptions of political advertising during elections in Yola North, focusing on factors such as credibility, content relevance, and emotional appeal.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the widespread use of political advertising during elections in Yola North, there is limited understanding of how audiences perceive these advertisements. 1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on audience perceptions of political advertising during elections in Yola North Local Government Area, Adamawa State. It does not extend to other forms of political communication or regions beyond Yola North.
